Are Layoffs Really Good for Organizations?
I wanted to be certain that our readers have the cover story in this week's Newsweek magazine. The topic is the title above, but what I appreciated about the article is the wealth of quality data and surveys to support the notion that layoffs are a terrible strategy for organizations, with potentially devastating results both long and short term. We'd like to hear from you after you read it. Click here: http://www.newsweek.com/id/233131

Social Media: Job Seekers Friend, Foe or Fantasy?
Good afternoon. For those of us who are trying to figure out if social media sites like Twitter and Facebook can really help those looking for work, let me say this. The jury is still out, but it is certainly worth a try as long as you don't spend too much time or energy using it as a major part of your job search strategy. Having said that, when looking for the right position, you can leave no stone unturned. So, utilize these sites as one more tool in your arsenal. And, if you are going to use the social media sites for this purpose, make sure you sound, look and prepare as professionally as you would a more traditional job search tool. By the way, another watchout. There is recent data in the "datasphere" of a poll taken of 100 recruiters indicated they had disqualified candidates based on other, more dated items the applicants had put social media sites that these recruiters went searching for and found..... The social media footprint is long, wide and deep!
So, tread carefully.
